Three was the magic number.
During Friday’s game against Washington, three rebounds was all that separated Pensacola High senior Kyla Evans from an elusive goal: Her first career triple double.
“I had no idea (I was chasing a triple double),” Evans said of the feat. “During the third quarter one of my assistant coaches told me I had three more rebounds to go.
“After that, I had the countdown going in my head.”
Evans finished the night with 19 points, 10 blocks and 14 rebounds.
She scooped up her 10th rebound after a Washington High free throw, and then resolved to tack on a few more to round out the game.
“Just in case it didn’t count,” she laughed.
