Lakeland will remain the home of high school championship basketball for three more years. As for the state wrestling tournament, it’s leaving after 18 years at the Lakeland Center.
Two months of negotiation ended Thursday morning as Mike Lapan, executive director of the Lakeland Center, signed a three-year contract to host the 2015, 2016 and 2017 state boys and girls tournaments.
The agreement can be extended for two additional years by mutual agreement of Lakeland and the Florida High School Athletic Association.
As part of a three-year deal, the Silver Spurs Arena in Kissimmee will be the new host for the wrestling tournament to be held Mar., 13-14, 2015
